Civil War Biographies Anderton Tilman Story Civil War Record of Anderton Tilmon Story 3rd Tennessee Inf., Giles County Tennessee Anderton was born April 1842 in Giles County TN. Enlisted in Company "I" (Clack’s) 3rd Tennessee Inf under C.J. Clack at Lynnville TN, on May 16, 1861. Trained at Camp Cheatham TN, (Near Springfield, TN) where his younger brother David Story became Ill & was sent home to die. He then moved to Camp Trousdale (Near Portland, TN) where they were accepted into Confederate service. From there they went to Bowling Green, KY. Then to Russellville, KY. Then to Fort Donelson where he arrived on 8, 1862. Fort Donelson fell and Anderton was captured on Feb 16, 1862 and sent to Camp Douglas, IL. He was paroled at Vicksburg, MS on Sept. 23, 1862. The 3rd TN was reorganized & Anderton was then in Co. "I" under William Peaton and David G. Alexander. Co "I" was in John Greggs Brigade. The following information is from copies of his original muster sheets & the book "Holding the Line" which was compiled from the diaries of Col. Flavel C. Barber of the 3rd TN Inf. In Battle of Chickasaw Bayou.................... 12-27-1862 Present at Bombardment of Port Hudson, LA.........3-14-1863 In Battle of Raymond, MS..........................5-12-1863 He was severely wounded at Raymond, MS. The 3rd finger & part of his left hand was blown off by a minie ball. It appears he spent the rest of the time with his Company but not in the fighting because of his wound. Absent from Jackson, MS (Wounded).................5-14-1863 Absent from Battle of Chickamauga (Sick).................9-19-1863 Absent from Battle of Missionary Ridge...................12-24-1863 No mention of him at Battle of Reseca, GA.................5-14-1864 Captured at Cassville, GA.................................5-20-1864 Anderton was sent to Rock Island Barracks, IL where he spent the remainder of the war. He was paroled on 5-16-1865. He returned to Giles County TN to his hometown of Campbellsville, TN & married Mary Loriney Pilkinton.. They had 10 children. Anderton applied for and received a Confederate pension. He died April, 1913 & is buried somewhere in Glenwood Cemetary in Maury County in an unmarked grave.
