2/4 At the Heraldic Visitation of London in 1633-4 by Sir Henry St. George, Richmond Herald,
two Storys (a & b below) registered the same Coat of Arms with their pedigrees - Argent a Lion
rampant double queued purpure. gorged with a mural crown or. These two Storys are probably the
ancestors of the STORY family of Everton, Hunts. which family recorded the same Arms at the 1684 Visitation of
that county by Sir Henry St. George, Clarenceux King of Arms.
2/4 a JAMES STORY, haberdasher, of Broad St., London, son of Walter STORY of St. Ives, Hunts. His
heiress daughter Elizabeth m. Thomas Starkey of London. In 1633 the arms were respited to the
Office, (i.e. sent back for further proof)but afterwards were accepted as having been "proved by Clarenceux Cooke (1567-1593)".
The Pedigree of 3 generations is signed by James STORYE
2/4 b ROBERT STORY, Clothworker, of Cripplegate Within had the same shield with a crescent for
difference. He was the second son of Robert STORY of Chesterton, Cambs. This entry must also have
been respited (i.e. sent back for further proof), it is endorsed "seen under the hand of Clarenceux
Harvey (1557-67)".
The pedigree - 3 generations is signed Robert STOREY 1633. [ Harl. Soc. , VOls. xv & xvii)
2/4 c PHILIP STORY recorded his pedigree and Arms : Argent a Lion rampant double-queued
purpure murally crowned gold. a martlet sable for difference. The pedigree of 4 generations is
signed by Philip STORY
The crescent is the proper difference mark for a 2nd. son, the martlet for a 4th. son.[ Harleian

2/5 Arms were granted in 1891 to EDMUND MERVIN BOOTH STORY, of Lydiard Manor, Somerset.
Argent a Lion rampant double-queued purpure. between four bugle-horns stringed sable in saltire.
Crest - Two arms embowed, habited purpure, cuffed argent, the hands proper grasping by the
attires a stag's head caboshed or, pierced by an arrow in pale argent.
In 1902 he changed his name to STORY-MASKELYNE and quartered the Story arms with those for
Maskelyne, and used 2 Crests. Motto "Bis vivitur virtute".

rampant. double queued. gules. And for motto "Fides vincit et veritas custodit"
2/6a The Storey family of Storey's Gate, London, used the same coat but with "Deo adjuvante non
timendum"
2/7 Arms were granted in 1829 and a crest in 1839 to The Rev. JOHN GEORGE STORIE of Co.
Essex; of Thames Ditton, Surrey; of Stowmaries, Sussex; of Paisley, Scotland; of Woodmansterne
Manor, Surrey; and of Springfield Lodge, Surrey; Vicar of Camberwell - Argent a Lion rampant
double queued gules. on a canton azure a fleur-de-lvs or. Crest granted in 1839 A demi-lion
rampant, double queued gules. The motto: "Courage et Esperance". [Burke's "Commoners"]
2/7a The same gentleman was granted by the Lord Lyon - Argent a Lion rampant double queued
purpure within a bordure flory of the s?me.

2/8 Richard STORY MD of Penrith, Cumbria, and his son Col. David STORY, R.A. (1781-1841)
used: Argent a Lion rampant vert within a Bordure azure. Motto: "Tout pour l'amour rien par
force". [ Tombstone in St. Andrew's Ch., Penrith]
