Biography of Daniel Story
Page Two

However, since Samuel & Senth's oldest known child, Bennett B. Story, was born about 1801 in North Carolina, it is not reasonable to think that Samuel moved from Alabama to North Carolina, then to Tennessee and finally to Texas, always living in the same area where Daniel & Elizabeth Story lived.

The 1800 census of Anson Co NC only lists two men by the name of Story, Daniel & Samuel. Samuel and his wife were both between the ages of 16 & 26, and they had no children. It is reasonable to conclude that Daniel is the father of Samuel, who had just married and was probably about 18 years old. In Anson Co, on December 7, 1802, the Last Will & Testament of Thomas Creel (a family from Southampton Co VA) was witnessed by Samuel Story and Henry Story, no doubt brothers and sons of Daniel & Elizabeth. Samuel & Henry show up again in Dickson Co TN when they served in the War of 1812 in Drury Adkins Company, Samuel as a 1st Lt.

Samuel appears in records of Perry Co TN from 1820 through May 1841, and is in Cass Co TX by 1846. His age from census records: 1800 (born 1774-1784), 1820 (born by 1775), 1830 (born 1780-1790), 1840 (born 1780-1790), 1850 (born 1768 AL). It is easy to speculate on the various errors I believe are here - such as, instead of 1768 the census taker meant to write 1786 - and in 1820 the census taker simply made his mark in the incorrect column. But that is not proof, I know.

Another assumed son of Daniel & Elizabeth is Henry Story who was born about 1783, apparently had died by the 1840 census, leaving wife Mary (Polly) Story of Davidson Co TN. Although Henry was living in Anson Co NC in 1810 (he witnessed a deed there on October 13), he is not listed on the census. He was in Dickson Co TN and served in Drury Adkins Company during the War of 1812. He is listed on 1820 census Davidson Co TN (his widow is there 1840) and 1830 Perry Co TN. Three of his sons married daughters of Lovel H. Cullom - Jesse W. m1846 Hannah Cullom, William H. m1846 Amy P. Cullom, and Lewis/Louis D. m1848 Susan Cullom. His fourth son was undoubtedly Elijah M. Story who m1852 Nancy T. Cartwright.

James Story (c1789-1873) married a woman named Euradice who was born 1796 NC. He was in Dickson Co TN records with his brothers Henry & Samuel, and in Perry Co TN by 1820, Henderson Co TN by 1830 until his death. His daughter Markitta mc1845 James Hendrex and moved c1853 to Texas where she died 1866 in Collin Co. His son Francis Marion Story also moved to Texas. Most of the family of James & Euradice are to be found in Tennessee records.

Daniel (1795-1884) mc1819 Susan T. (McCaig?). They were listed on 1830 census Henderson Co TN, 1840 Perry Co TN, 1850 Cass Co TX. He died 1884 Corsicana, Navarro Co TX.

Elijah (1804-1878) mc1828 Lydia -----. They also moved from Henderson Co TN to Fannin, then Navarro Co TX where they are buried.

Any discussion of this family would be welcome, and any input would be greatly appreciated.
