Joseph Story

Born September 18, 1779 in Marblehead, Mass., Joseph Story was the son of Elisha and Mehitable Story. Joseph Story graduated from Harvard in 1798 and began the practice of law in 1801 in Salem, Massachusetts. He was a Democratic member of Congrees from Massachusetts during the term 1808-09. Mr Story was associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1811-1845. During that time he also was professor of law at Harvard (1829-45) and published "Commentaries on the Law of Bailments" (1832), "Commentaries on the Constitution of the Untied States" (1833), "On the Conflict of Laws" (1834), and several other writings. Joseph Story died September 10, 1845 in Cambridge, Massachusetts
