Dr. John Story A leader among the Catholic religion, Dr. John Story earned his doctorate of divinity from Oxford in 1531, and served in Parliament from 1558-59. He was zealous in his convictions and was a vigorous opponent to the "Reformed Religion". Many persons were subjected to persecution at the hands of Dr. Story, and he was apprehended and imprisoned in 1558. After his release from prison, he still remained a staunch Catholic and refused to recognize Queen Elizabeth as the Head of the Church (of England). He was subsequently arrested again and hanged on June 1, 1571 at the age of 67.
